Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral or prescription?

No. Direct access legislation under Idaho law states patients are able to be evaluated and treated by a licensed physical therapist without first obtaining a doctor’s prescription/referral.

Do I need an MRI before starting Physical Therapy?

When experiencing pain, many patients often consider getting an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) as their first step, hoping it will identify the exact cause of their discomfort. However, in many instances, an MRI may not be the most helpful or necessary option. Physical therapy is frequently a more effective, timely, and cost-efficient method for diagnosing and treating pain. Obviously there are exceptions to this which can be discussed on the phone at the time of booking your evaluation

What Training Do Doctors of Physical Therapy (DPT) Have?

DPT's hold a Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT), which requires 6-7 years of university education.

How long does it take to recover from an injury?

Our most common treatment plan is about 3 months time. There are many factors that can shorten this time or extend it, but you likely will start seeing improvements within a few weeks.

How often will I need to attend physical therapy sessions?

Most traditional Physical Therapy clinics will have you coming into the clinic 2-3 times per week. At Drive Performance Therapy we believe that if patients are following our treatment plans at home, that there is no reason to come in multiple days a week to perform many of the same exercises you are already doing at home. Typically see our patients only 1 time per week allowing us to constantly be pushing forward towards your goals. Ultimately this saves you time and money.

How do I choose the right physical therapist for my needs?

The most important thing to consider when choosing a physical therapist is finding someone who takes the time to LISTEN to you. Many clinics are so busy that the Physical Therapist may only spend 15-20 minutes with each patient. We feel that this is not nearly enough time to get to know each patient's individual problems and goals.

What should I expect during my first physical therapy session?

During your first Physical Therapy sessions you should expect to learn the source of your pain, and why you are experiencing it.  You will be provided with an actionable plan in order to solve this problem long term which include videos of your home exercises that will be emailed to you with a summary of your evaluation findings. We will also fit as much treatment into that first visit to provide you as much value as possible!
